Big Foot High School recently finished construction on a $ 1.4 million, 9, 000-square-foot auditorium renovation at the High School, located in Walworth WI. The auditorium was originally constructed in 1957-1958. The inside of the auditorium has been completely gutted to modernize the space, complete with ADA access modifications, new seating, new theatrical lighting, sound upgrades and many more items needed to bring the facility up to date. New rigging systems and curtains are also being installed.
“The Big Foot High School District decided to modernize this auditorium by judiciously using available funds on construction improvements that will provide the greatest impact for students and staff and the community,” said Administrator Dorothy Kaufmann. “In addition to interior cosmetic improvements, the district is upgrading lighting to LED lights, which reduce maintenance and operation costs and improve efficiency. The new wheelchair access with ramps up to the main stage will also improve how this auditorium functions.”
The auditorium is now available for public use and has many special features including seating for 550 people. “The entire school is excited to have our theatre being remodeled to come back better than it was before,” explained BFHS Administrator Dorothy Kaufman “From hosting assemblies to providing a space for creativity and performances, our theatre is an important part of school life and soon it will be easier to use, and safer, with up to date Technology because of the work being done.”
In April 2014, voters in the BFHS school district approved a $4.95 million referendum to renovate and maintain the school, comply with safety regulations, improve school grounds, provide additional teaching staff, update Tech Ed curriculum and equipment and update technology. The auditorium renovation at Big Foot High School is being funded through this referendum.
“This will be a great opportunity for us to build and showcase our Fine Arts area” said Mike Hinske, Principal of Big Foot High School. “The repairs and improvements would not have been possible without the support of district voters and our parent community, and the BFHS School Board, and we are very grateful.” The entire auditorium was closed while the construction team installed new steel beams to support the added weight for additional catwalks and other safety structures. The entire remodel was completed by the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year. Big Foot High School showcased the new auditorium with a formal dedication and public celebration in the Fall of 2016. There is now a full season of performances scheduled in the new auditorium. Get your tickets now!
